When I went river rafting it took 8 hours to get there. The only
thing I had to do in that period of time was read Harry Potter
and the Sorcerers Stone, play cards, or play on my play station
portable or PSP or on my DS (I don't know what the initials
mean). We couldn't find the campsite but as it was around 2 AM
we camped out in a different camp site where my dad set up the
tent and slept in it while the rest of us put the chairs of the
mini van into a bed so we could all lie down.
We woke up at around 8 and then we set off to find the right
camp site. Before we set up camp we did what we were there for,
river rafting. We would never drive 8 hours just to camp. The 3
little kids were not allowed to come into the raft because the
water being newly melted snow, they were bound to be thrown into
the freezing water. This was my first time river rafting so we
went in class two rapids. No one was thrown into the water which
was lucky because we would have no way to warm them up and the
water made my hand numb when I stuck my hand in it for 5-10
seconds, so think what it would do to you if you where in there
for one minute.
The trip took around 4 hours not counting the time we spent in
the hot springs that marked the half way point in the twenty
mile river. The hot springs was a tub of water that someone made
with large rocks and cement. The water was naturally warm and
was very soothing after the 2 hours we spent getting sprayed by
ice cold water. When we were almost at the end of the river my
hat was blown off by the strong cold winds that made the water
spraying us seem much colder. When the rafting trip was over I
noticed that if you missed the exit you had about fifty meters
worth of time to abandon ship before you go off a twenty foot
water fall.
We waited awhile for our ride to get there. While everybody was
getting the ship packed I decided to make myself useful and set
up camp. I then collected firewood but when I got back I
realized that we were not allowed to start a fire until dark and
that we had to read the rules before making a fire. We bought
some of the wood we burned from the park ranger and the wood I
had spent so much time collecting was cast aside. The ranger
told us something interesting he said the pine cones blow up
like hand grenades if you light them on fire. I have to try
that.
The next day we took down the camp roasted a few marshmallows
and then set off. we stopped to eat twice The second time we
went out to Chinese food where I heard a funny joke. I had some
duck and fried rice and that filled me up. Then we came back
home where I fell asleep.
