HOW TO ORGANIZE A BINDER

Organizing Your Binder: What You Need

Need: Dividers, Folders, Hole Punch, Commitment

"Stuff" can only get you so far with keeping a binder neat and organized, but the four items above are necessary for disorganized students to clean up their act.

1.Using Binder Dividers to Organize your Binder

Binder Dividers with Pockets
Dividers are very useful; they make a binder like a filing system. Usually, people will sort their binder according to subject, but if it is a small binder with only one or two subjects, sub-categories can be useful: a different section for homework, class work, already graded assignments, blank paper, and handouts. All homework for a class should always be kept together so that it is quick and easy to access when it comes time to turn it in. Also, sometimes teachers make mistakes and it is imperative that the student keep even his graded work so that when the time comes they can pull out the assignment with a stamp on it and show it to the teacher.

2. Folders for Quick Storage

Folders are useful for things that need to be stored quickly or maybe can’t be easily hole-punched. Plus, they can come with all sorts of cool pictures on them and in the back there is also some useful information about inches to centimeter, etc.

3. Binder Hole Punch

A hole punch is a very useful tool that makes it so you don’t have to get up and look for one every time the teacher hands out something that hasn’t already been hole-punched. Everything can be easily stored if you have one. Just don’t advertise that you have one or a lot of people will want to use yours and your binder will get passed around to several different people.

4. Commitment

Commitment and a little patience are required. Yes, it does take 5 seconds to pull out your binder and put away a paper, but think of how much time you save when you have to pull out that binder and look for a paper. Either you will spend 5 seconds to pull out your binder and find it filed away, or you will spend several minutes emptying the contents of your backpack on your table to find your paper squished into a little ball. Binders are useful when used properly. Otherwise, they are just things that take up space in your back pack while your papers are stuffed into other pockets.

Items to Help You Organize Your Binder

One inch binders are good for a single class.
These one inch binders are good for a single class or 2 classes.

2 inch binders can be used for several classes, but a binder bigger than 2 inches will be too big!

Binder Dividers are useful when organizing a binder.
There are different kinds of binder dividers. The dividers above have a pocket.

These are two sided binder dividers and they come in different colors. Colors are good to help you find stuff quickly.
