My Trip to Mexico, Janie age 13 I was about 8 years old when my family took a trip to Mexico. We took a limo down to the airport in L.A. and I felt so excited because I had never been in a limo before. My grandmother, brother, aunt and I met my dad in Mexico. There we stayed in a completely non tourist area. It was so much fun. We especially loved the warm water; it was nothing like the cold Pacific in California. My brother and I swam all day except for when my mom made us take a siesta during noon, the hottest part of the day, she feared sunburns. Thankfully, we did not get sun burned. At night we went to little restaurants which served the best Mexican food at a low price. Plus, the little market they had where all the people set up little tents and sold a myriad of items at was just so cool. That is where my dad bought his favorite chess set for just 25$. It seemed to be going great, but we had made one mistake. My brother and I have been to many countries and faced loads of different diseases. I remember my brother getting the chicken pox in Greece, but sadly we didn't think too far ahead when we went swimming. The place we were staying in was a bay. Also, there was a fish market just up the bay. The fish that went bad was simply tossed back into the ocean and my guess is that the locals were already immune to the sickness that floated around in the bay, but my brother and I were not. I think you know where this is headed: We became violently ill. Not anything life threatening of course, or my parents probably would have brought us home immediately, but we threw up together about 11 times that night and could only drink bottled water for a whole day. I thought the trip was ruined. However, that same day my parent packed up our bags and brought us to club Med where we rested for a day drinking these funny fruit flavored medicines and finally recovered. I had a lot of fun at Club Med. Even though now my parents complain about having to go to this resort, having loved the little town where we first were, I enjoyed my entire vacation(2 weeks) a great idea, minus the two days in bed of course. Some of the things we did at club Med include archery, hikes and a little sailing. Dax, my brother, still loved swimming though, as did I. The water was just as warm there and to me it looked much clearer. I loved the buffets because I thought it was interesting. I am very bad at making decisions so I loved tasting everything, but it lacked the excellent taste of the other restaurants. I can tell you though I never ate guacamole again after getting sick. I still remember at age 13 riding on a little cart though the club Med doors and experiencing two completely opposite vacations. I wood always recommend seeing the real Mexico, but be warned going to any foreign country puts you at risk of catching some bug. Especially warm countries for some reason. Anyway I was saying if you are daring visit regular Mexico, if you are planning a safe family vacation club Med offers tons of entertainment. |
